Why GAMTI Exists -
and the Vision Driving It Forward.
Claudia has spent most of her professional life in assistance and medical transport — and still finds the industry just as fascinating as she did at the beginning of her career.
Her journey started on the operational side as a paramedic, emergency dispatcher, medical assistance professional, and flight paramedic. Over the years, she moved into international leadership roles, rebuilt businesses, advised companies, and worked with teams across the insurance, assistance, and medical transport sectors.
Throughout that journey, one thing stayed with her: most professionals learned the industry by simply being thrown into it. There was no clear place to build a strong foundation, understand how the different sectors work together, or develop into a specialist or leader.
After five years of teaching at universities, working with companies around the world, and meeting hundreds of industry professionals, Claudia realized that the same gap existed almost everywhere. That realization led her to found GAMTI.
GAMTI is deeply personal to Claudia. It brings together the knowledge, practical experience, and international perspective she wishes had been available when she first entered the industry. Her goal is to give professionals a clear path for their development while helping companies build confident, capable teams that deliver better outcomes for the people who depend on them.

Brandon Bates MBA, CMTE
Responsible for strategic growth and the AirMed Global Operations Center (100,000+ calls annually). Board Member of UStiA and ITIC conference committee member.
Barbara Baumgartner
Austrian native based in Dubai since 1997. Investment Committee member at Mindshift Capital. Named “Aviation Business Innovative Leader” finalist at Dubai Airshow 2023.
Thierry Bravo
Started as case manager at MAPFRE Lisbon, rose to Operations Supervisor, then managed MAPFRE UK’s medical assistance team. Fluent in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Sean Bryan MBA-HM, BSN, RN
12+ years in emergency and trauma medicine before joining REVA. Leads a 100+ person medical department including flight physicians, nurses, and paramedics.
Claudia Carfì
10 years in health insurance and assistance. Currently studying Leadership and Management at Harvard University. Fluent in Italian, French, Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
Sam Cimone
Critical care nurse turned air ambulance executive. Led Skyservice Aviation’s air ambulance and charter division through major transformation from the early 2000s through 2017.
Elliott Draga
President of the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada (THIA). Led NIS’s geographic and product expansion across travel, health, and PMI insurance platforms globally.
Serge Avice du Buisson
30 years across travel assistance, IPMI, cost containment, remote healthcare, and aeromedicine. Paramedic background from South Africa. Past experience include Generali, Europ Assistance, GMMI, and Netcare911.
Dr. François-Xavier Duchateau
Former Group CMO of Allianz Partners. Qualified in emergency, disaster, and aviation medicine. Active emergency physician with the French SAMU.
Lauren Dulin
Nearly two decades at Air Ambulance Worldwide. Board member of USTIA. Known for setting new industry standards in operational excellence and revenue generation.
Alain Durand
30+ years in healthcare. Leading medical & travel assistance across Southeast Asia and APAC. MBA (Distinction), University of Liverpool.
Dr. Ludovic Gros
Military doctor specialized in tropical, catastrophe, and emergency medicine. Led EU MEDEVAC projects and NATO military conferences.
Gabrielle Hosea RN, MSN
Founded RNI in 2008 — the first commercial medical transport company to receive CAMTS accreditation. Traveled to 80+ countries. RNI was acquired by On Call in 2014.
Raija Hoppula Itzchaki
Former President of Cost Containment at GMMI and President of Travel Assistance at Generali Global Assistance. Independent global consultant since 2020.
Ryan Jones
20+ years in air medical transport operations. Track record leading sales strategy, dispatch coordination, and high-performing teams in fast-paced, mission-critical environments.
Mike Key
26+ years in medical aviation and ground transport. Former 8-year Board member and 3-year President of UStiA. Traveled to 95 countries.
Mandy Langfield
17 years in travel and international health insurance. Former Editor of ITIJ and AirMed&Rescue. ITIC Committee member.
Volker Lemke
Head of FAI’s Ambulance Flight division since 2005. Former emergency paramedic in ground and helicopter rescue from 1983–1999.
Thomas Lescot MD, PhD
Anaesthesiology and critical care specialist. Former professor at Sorbonne University. Head of Anaesthesia & Critical Care, Saint-Antoine Hospital, Paris. PhD in Neurosciences.
Geoffroy Remond
15 years in medical assistance (Mutuaide, International SOS, AXA Partners). Manages global medical provider networks across Europe, Africa, Middle East, and Asia.
Carter Roberson
7 years in medical and non-medical assistance, global partner management, provider management, and network development.
Dr. Yann Rouaud

Nearly a decade in travel insurance and assistance following a career in mental health and emergency room social work. Brings clinical insight and operational expertise to GAMTI’s mental health and wellbeing curriculum, and applies that same steady, solution-focused approach in the classroom.
Julia Gaspar-Bates, M.A.
Co-founder of a global cross-cultural consulting and training firm, having delivered customized programs to thousands of leaders and teams across industries, languages, and continents. Brings deep intercultural expertise to GAMTI’s communication and collaboration curriculum.
Dawn Heeger
Registered Nurse with over 15 years’ experience in critical care, global medical assistance, and complex international repatriation. Brings extensive expertise in aeromedical operations, clinical governance, patient safety, and flight nurse development, and is the author of Let’s Talk Flight Nursing: A Beginner’s Guide to Medical Repatriation.
Jane Hegeler
20 years in travel and health insurance. Former MD of Tangiers International and CEO of Asia Medical Assistance. Expert in building emergency assistance centres and global provider networks across North Africa, Middle East, Latin America, and Asia.
Thorkild Lykke
Two decades shaping the medical assistance landscape across travel insurance, IPMI, and medical assistance. Designs courses around global network optimisation, cost reduction, and travel risk intelligence, then translates those concepts into the classroom himself. External advisor to Riskline since 2019.

Nico Raab
Business economist, paramedic, and auditor with 20+ years in the international air ambulance industry. Designs courses at the intersection of emergency medicine, quality management, and operational leadership, and brings that experience directly to learners — motivated by the unique intersection of aviation and medicine.
Gary Sommerford
36+ years in counter fraud operations, investigations, and training. Accredited Counter Fraud Specialist. Designs GAMTI’s fraud-focused curriculum with content drawn from real investigations, and delivers it as a frequent workshop and seminar speaker valued for his practical, collaborative approach.
Susan Yates
25+ years in travel, health, and expatriate insurance. Led Allianz Asia-Pacific operations, managed crisis responses during the Bali bombing and Asian tsunami, built UnitedHealthcare Global’s international network.
